The new Beijing Planetarium is opened today to the audience after three years hard work.The new Planetarium and the old one, built in 1957, compose the biggest popular science base in China.
The new planetarium is beside the old one in the northwestern part of the city. The total investment of the new planetarium exceeds over 300 million yuan, or 37 million US dollars. It has many world level facilities, including a digital space theatre and a simulated space capsule. The audience can enjoy a vivid experience of Jurassic Period or outer space travel.
The only one vacuum telescope nationwide is installed on the ceiling of the building, through which the audience can obverse the solar cycle. 3000 square meters exhibition room offers more space to hold all kinds of displays on astronomy.
